Technicolor agrees to distribute NBC Universal channels globally

Thomson’s Technicolor division has signed a long-term deal to provide NBC Universal with international broadcast distribution and media management services.
Under terms of the new deal, Technicolor will buy a Denver, CO-based broadcast distribution center from NBC Universal (which it bought for $350 million). The new acquisition gives Technicolor its first U.S. broadcast facility while boosting its international presence.
Once the deal is completed, Technicolor will be responsible for the management and distribution of more than 230 channels, including 31 new ones acquired in the NBCU agreement. Nineteen of NBCU’s Hallmark International channels will be managed from the Denver facility while the rest will originate from Technicolor facilities in London, Paris and Singapore. Technicolor operates 23 distribution facilities worldwide that service such organizations as ITV, BBC Worldwide, Canal Plus, M6, TV5 Monde, Disney, MTV, Orange and Netherlands Public Broadcasting.
In addition to NBC's 19 Hallmark International channels, the Denver facility will continue to distribute the two East Coast and West Coast channels of the Hallmark Channel in the United States and two Altitude Sports Network channels, regional cable TV sports channels operated by KSE Media Ventures.
