WVIA adds Compix graphics systems to master control

All of WVIA-TV’s graphics are created in Photoshop, which is networked to the Compix LCG9000R HD system.
WVIA-TV, the PBS station in covering central Pennsylvania, has upgraded its master control suite to HD with Compix Media’s LCG9000R HD, which now handles all live video graphics.
The station, which also bought a new Sony MVS 8000A switcher, has used Compix GenCG software since 2003 — first the dual channel SD version (LCG3000D) that was used in its production truck and now the HD version for master control. WVIA serves the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton market and has 15 full-time engineers and production staff.
All of WVIA’s graphics are created in Photoshop, which is networked to Compix. Users place transparent layers on an alpha channel that is imported as a Targa file into the Compix system. Text layers and fonts are added and the graphics are saved in the program, so staff can simply open Compix and update the fonts. Operators can wipe a lower third in and out with the Compix tools, and it doesn’t tie up the switcher because the software includes a special effects generator.
The system can be loaded onto any PC and files created on another PC can be loaded into the graphics system for finishing. It also offers the ability to automatically loop material.
