Big Ten Network sent via satellite with Wegener

The fledgling Big Ten Network (BTN) will use satellite receive equipment from Wegener to make its live games available to its affiliates, including those within the Fox Cable Network. BTN, scheduled to launch in August, is a new national sports channel distributed via cable and satellite TV service providers that is focused on covering both the athletic and academic content of the Big Ten Conference and its 11 member institutions.

The network is a joint venture between subsidiaries of the Big Ten Conference and Fox Cable Networks. The network will be available to all North American cable and satellite carriers and TV distributors, with most programs offered in HD.

The network is leveraging Wegener’s linear video distribution solution, which includes the Unity 4600 satellite receivers, Compel Network Control system and Compel encryption technology. The Unity 4600 receiver enables digital reception of SD and HD TV signals. The Compel Network Control system allows BTN to support multiple live sporting events, regionalize commercial insertions and remotely re-tune its Wegner receivers.
