The FCC has launched a new Web site for consumers that’s designed to inform the public about DTV.
The Web site, www.dtv.gov, is intended to push the analog-to-digital TV conversion forward. The site provides “accessible answers” to common DTV questions.
According to Dane Snowden, chief of the FCC’s Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau, the site should be consumers’ “first stop for information and news on navigating the digital television transition."
Key site topics include:
- What’s on DTV? – Look up DTV and HDTV programming;
- FAQs - Consumer Corner;
- Glossary –DTV, SDTV, HDTV, Enhanced TV …what does it all mean?
- Industry partners – broadcasters, manufacturers and retailers working for the transition;
- Shoppers’ guide;
- What is DTV?
- Regulatory information – a link page back to the FCC site with all DTV rules, policies and actions grouped together;
- In the news – a five-minute sojourn of out-going FCC Chairman Michael Powell through a consumer electronics retailer.
