HDTV services top list of consumer acquisitions

HDTV service shared the No. 1 ranking with satellite radio in a list of services consumers plan to buy over the next six months, according to ChangeWave Research’s "ChangeWave Alliance Holiday Spending" survey.

Eleven percent of respondents said they would add HDTV service. Another 11 percent plan to add satellite radio. In total, 1430 ChangeWave Alliance members responded to the survey, conducted Oct. 19-28.

The survey also found consumer electronics items are expected to be a bright spot for this year’s holiday season. Among the most popular items with consumers are flat-screen LCD televisions.

Topping the list of consumer electronics items shoppers plan to buy were digital cameras. LCD flat panel televisions ranked fourth at 10 percent on the list of behind cell phones (18 percent) and laptop computers (12 percent). Five percent said they planned to buy plasma televisions, while three percent expected to buy a DLP-based display.
