The Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the Video Services Forum last month released a pair of standards related to the transport of high bit rate video over IP networks.

The standards are the latest advancement in integrating packetized video more fully into the day-to-day tasks done by television stations, production companies and post houses.

In this the first of a two-part podcast interview, Brad Gilmer, executive director of the Video Services Forum and Broadast Engineering columnist, discusses the new standards, how they will enable vendors to develop compatible technology for transport of high bit rate video over IP networks and where IP networks are headed in the television industry.
