Red Bee Media opens doors on HD signing studio

Red Bee Media has begun using a second studio, built by ATG Broadcast, at the Broadcast Centre in White City, London, specifically designed to extend the creation of live or recorded in-vision sign-language captioning into HD.

Known as Signing Studio 2, the new facility is based on a Sony 8000GSF, which combines the roles of a video production switcher, DVE, editor and HD router into a single unit.

Output of a program and content from a camera dedicated to capturing signing is recorded onto a server or tape, depending upon the client, explained Red Bee Media technical manager Andy Eisner. Fine adjustments to the sizing of the signing and positioning of the overall image are done with the switcher’s built-in DVE.

In 2005, ATG completed installation of Red Bee Media’s first signing studio, which now operates 18 hours per day for SD work.
