Sinclair Broadcast Group and Comcast have reached a binding retransmission consent agreement for the cable carriage of all Sinclair stations in markets served by Comcast.
The multi-year agreement relates to the Sinclair stations’ analog and digital signals. While the terms of the agreement were not disclosed, Sinclair said that it should receive some compensation for its DTV and HDTV signals. Last year the broadcaster launched an online and on-air campaign to educate viewers about HDTV’s availability for free via over-the-air transmission.
Sinclair's ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC affiliated stations’ carriage roll out of digital signals on Comcast is underway. Carriage of the digital signals of Sinclair's WB and UPN affiliated stations will begin later this year.
Comcast has historically carried the analog signals of all the Sinclair stations located in Comcast markets and such carriage will continue under the new agreement.
In January, an agreement between Sinclair and Comcast averted a situation that would have prevented viewers from seeing the HD presentation of the Super Bowl in certain markets via Comcast.
