Streambox will release the software-only version of its Streambox ACT-L3 Encoder June 1.

For several years, national and international broadcasters have used the Streambox ACT-L3 Software Encoder, and the company’s planned June release will make the software encoder available to the industry at large.

Typically used for live and file-based newsgathering and video acquisition over low data rate IP networks, the software enables Mac OS or Windows PC users to adopt Streambox's platform for encoding, transmission and video file management while fully leveraging Streambox's platform for broadcast and broadband video.

The product extends broadcasters' backhaul options from wireless handheld mobile encoders to full-featured software and hardware encoders for a variety of SD and HD newsgathering and other live applications.
