Telecinco turns to Snell Kahuna for soccer coverage

Jul 6, 2009 3:10 PM

For its coverage of the FIFA Confederations Cup soccer tournament, Spanish broadcaster Telecinco had two important allies: Snell's Kahuna SD/HD multiformat production switcher working in conjunction with the company’s IQ Modular IQARC00 conversion and signaling module.

Together, the Snell solutions enabled Telecinco to deliver live match coverage simultaneously in 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios. To serve the widest range of viewers, Telecinco decided to broadcast Confederations Cup matches over both its PAL analog channel and its digital terrestrial channel. Because the station's program output is in 16:9, Telecinco needed an easy means of converting the stream to 4:3 for the analog broadcast.

With its embedded FormatFusion technology, Kahuna is a true multiformat SD/HD production switcher capable of handling multiple broadcast formats in the same mainframe and on the same control panel. Thus, Telecinco was able to produce the two simultaneous broadcast streams without having to purchase external conversion equipment.

A Mechanism to Recover Lost MPEG / IP Delivery Data in Real Time

sponsored by: Sencore

In the ever advancing world of media content delivery, MPEG over IP (MPEG/IP) has been gaining popularity for a number of reasons. Along with the benefits, come a number of challenges. One of the biggest challenges is a mechanism to recover lost data in real-time. This paper will attempt to shed some light on the inner workings of the real-time data recovery mechanism: Pro-MPEG Code of Practice #3 Forward Error Correction (CoP#3 FEC). Read Now
