New Orleans Arena adds scoreboard

New digital technology upgrades are sprouting up as New Orleans-based large-scale event venues continue to get refurbished in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
The New Orleans Arena reopened March 8 sporting a new Daktronics centerhung scoreboard and two new end wall displays. The new scoring and display equipment are part of the upgrades for the facility spelled out in the original agreement with the Hornets when the basketball team moved to New Orleans in 2002. Installation of the $1.5 million system upgrade was scheduled for the fall of 2005, but was delayed when the arena was damaged by Hurricane Katrina last August.
Installation was completed March 1. Fans saw the new scoring and display system for the first time when the Hornets returned to the New Orleans Arena for the March 8 game versus the Los Angeles Lakers.
