Terayon unveils ad insertion solution

Terayon Communication Systems has announced a telco-optimized solution that allows telecommunications service providers to support advertising streams with their rollout of IPTV services.

At the Telco TV Conference & Expo, Nov. 8-10 in San Diego, CA, Terayon will demonstrate new software for its DM 6400 Network CherryPicker that enables telecommunications carriers to seamlessly insert advertisements for local companies into MPEG-4/AVC encoded digital video.

In addition to advertising, telecom carriers can also use the DM 6400 for other digital video applications, including the aggregation of programming content from multiple sources and grooming customized channel line-ups by cherry picking individual programs from multiple programming sources.

Terayon is also working with several vendors in the telecommunications industry to integrate the DM 6400 as part of a larger, complete digital video solution for telecom carriers.

The DM 6400 utilizes proprietary ASIC chips designed for the computational requirements of compressed MPEG-2 and MPEG-4/AVC digital video to deliver both standard definition (SD) and high definition (HD) digital video services.
