UKTV revamps London facility

Jul 7, 2006 10:54 AM

UKTV, a multichannel broadcaster in the UK, has completed the roll-out of new broadcast management solutions at its London facility for nine of its 10 channels. The new system is being used by approximately 240 people across UKTV's television channels and significantly improves the sharing of information and control over processes in the broadcast chain.

The new installation is built on SintecMedia's OnAir broadcast management technology. The company used OnAir to combine its major operations into an all-in-one management and scheduling product, facilitating communications across the organization, eliminating duplicate data entry, and enabling UKTV to leverage its assets and airtime more effectively and realize increased revenues. The OnAir solution has replaced UKTV's existing Harris Broadcast Master and Preset systems, easing the transition by providing a simple migration path from the broadcaster's legacy systems to the new OnAir system without the need for rekeying.

The workflow engine built into OnAir allows UKTV to design custom workflow processes within a single operational environment that supports all of its broadcast channels. Among the operations streamlined by the workflow engine are commercial airtime order approval and credit checks, as well as media-related activities involved in closed captioning, subtitling and audio description. The workflow engine also provides advanced screening tools that work to identify and eliminate potential bottlenecks in station operations.
