Using Anton-Bauer batteries with the QR-JVC7/14HDV adapter, the station has been able to shoot for days on a single battery charge.
KOSA-TV, the CBS affiliate in Odessa, TX, is using seven JVC ProHD GY-HD110U camcorders for its field acquisition and live ENG broadcasts. The station replaced its Beta SP decks with six ProHD BR-HD50U player/recorders for editing and archiving.
Jim McKinnon, director of engineering for KOSA, said the camcorders provide more shooting time per tape — 60 minutes — compared with 20 minutes with Betacam. "Some of our station's videographers have shot for two days on one tape," he said. "And, using Anton-Bauer batteries with the QR-JVC7/14HDV adapter, they've been able to shoot for days on a single battery charge."
Other advantages of the JVC equipment include less weight, which makes them easier to carry after a long day, and the ability to use a laptop in the field to ingest and transport footage to the station via Internet connection using the camera's FireWire interface.
