CloseVU introduces new platform for sports mobile TV

At NAB2008, CloseVU demonstrated its Mobile Portal application enables the creation of real-time sports portals for multiple mobile platforms — including Apple iPhone/iPod, Adobe Flash for Web and Adobe Flash Lite 3 for mobile. CloseVU enables content providers to leverage sports content for mobile and Web delivery with properly sized video, interactive elements and superior graphics.

CloseVU Mobile Portal features include ways to create engaging, interactive experiences by adding pop-ups, interactive games, updates and sponsorships to media players. Mobile Portal offers numerous ways to increase sponsorship opportunities with banners, logos and targeted sponsorships linked to specific in-game events. The user experience is enhanced with interactive elements including options for close-ups or slow-motion views of key plays.

Digital Rapids to provide streaming for NBC’s online Olympics coverage

Digital Rapids’ Transcode Manager and DRC-Stream products will provide NBC with top-quality encoding and streaming of online content during coverage of the Beijing Olympics, Aug. 8-24.

Digital Rapids’ DRC-Stream encoding and streaming solutions will allow NBC to stream 2200 hours of live video on the Internet at NBCOlympics.com, primarily encoded from video feeds processed through the DRC-Stream systems. Streams will be encoded in the VC-1 compression format for a viewing experience powered by Microsoft Silverlight technology.

The encoded live streams will also be archived for viewers to watch on demand. Digital Rapids’ Transcode Manager, the enterprise-class solution for scalable, high-volume media file transcoding, will be used to convert affiliate-provided content between compression and file formats for U.S. domestic distribution.

Game Creek Video buys more QuStream routers for sports trucks

Veteran mobile production company Game Creek Video has placed a new order for a Cheetah 384X720 HD router with redundant power supply and redundant frame controller from QuStream to complement Game Creeks’ other QuStream products onboard its new HD sports trucks.

The new system incorporates an HD-SDI multirate input module, 144 x 144 HD-SDI switching matrix and load card plus an HD-MR output processor. Additional elements include a Cheetah DRS (distributed routing system), QuStream UDC-550-SC HD up/down/crossconversion with SDI and NTSC/PAL outputs, a FS-514 video synchronizer with legalizer, a DAS-441A audio synchronizer, QuStream Integrity FRM-501 and FRM-504 interfaces and a PERC2000 router control unit.

Based in Hudson, NH, Game Creek Video operates a wide variety of mobile units for clients including ABC, CBS, ESPN, FOX, HBO, NBC, MLB, NBA Entertainment, YES Network and USA Network. Game Creek’s mobile units and engineers have worked with these and other clients at events such as the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, Stanley Cup and the MLS Cup.
