Throughout this decade, motion picture and TV content owners are likely to see small financial gains in distributing programming online, says a new report from Toronto-based Convergence Consulting Group.
Titled "The Battle for the North American Couch Potato: New Challenges and Opportunities in the Content Market," the analysts predict movie and TV show downloads will equal up to 2 percent of DVD sales this year, growing to 8 percent of DVD sales in 2009.
The report called Apple's iTunes sales of Walt Disney movies "unimpressive" so far, stating that the company has sold 800 movies a week on average between mid-September and early March. The average TV show on iTunes has sold 200,000 episodes, bringing in the average revenue of one TV commercial, the report said.
