L’Energie de Sion-Région SA (ESR), a utility company in the Sion region of Switzerland, has selected the Latens CAS solution and Super Encryptor for digital transition of its analog cable subscriber base
The technology will be used to protect ESR’s new DVB-C cable system. The operator plans to start transitioning its analog consumers to the new digital cable system, commencing in the second quarter of this year. The system will provide ESR customers with VOD and network PVR services as well as SD and HD video.
ESR said it chose the Latens CA system because it is one of the only software-based conditional access systems on the market that could protect a DVB-C system efficiently while at the same time as providing high flexibility.
Latens’ CA system is optimized for the broadband digital cable market. It replaces proprietary smart cards or embedded set-top solutions of traditional CA system vendors with a downloadable CA system using Secure Software Modules. This provides a more dynamic, secure anti-piracy strategy at a much lower cost. The system scales from thousands to millions of cable subscribers.
