Britain’s Premium Television selects ATG’s streaming media encoders

Premium Television has ordered eight ATG Broadcast 230RMS rack-mounting encoder systems. Using the Microsoft Windows Media Platform, Premium TV creates, packages and markets live and on-demand streaming digital content for organizations such as the Premier League; Football League and Scottish Premier League football clubs; MTV; Playboy; and World Rally Championship.

Each ATG 230RMS encoder consists of a 3GHz PC processor with 1GB RAM and 160GB hard disk drive plus Osprey-230 module, all in a 2U chassis. The Osprey-230 is a half-slot low-profile PCI bus processor that captures full-motion video from standard or professional PAL or NTSC together with audio sampled at 32-, 44- or 48 KHz. Features include logo overlay and dedicated audio gain control.

Paul Court, head of infrastructure and technical services at Premium Television, said the devices significantly increase the streaming capacity his company is able to offer, adding that the Makeni Auto Timer software integrated into one of the encoders enables Premium TV to perform unattended overnight ingest of content arriving from other time-zones.
