Companies to demonstrate AVC compression technology and applications

At least 45 international companies are working with the AVC alliance to demonstrate applications based on the Advanced Video Coding (AVC, MPEG-4 Part 10, H.264) technology at NAB2005. This includes live coding and decoding of HD television and products to support the technology.

AVC is the result of work starting in the ITU and in MPEG. The Joint Video Team (JVT), which is made up of experts from the two organizations, completed the project. The algorithm is published as H.264 by the ITU, while ISO/IEC publishes it as MPEG-4 Part 10.
