Thomson introduces enhancements for Grass Valley K2

At IBC2007, Thomson showed several new features for its Grass Valley K2 media server and media client system.

The enhancements allow clients, including those requiring multilingual capabilities and the ability to import elements from third-party applications into an existing K2 clip, to develop non-proprietary, highly secure and tightly integrated infrastructures from ingest to playout, which is especially important to European broadcasters.

New features include:

  • K2 Plus server options that leverage dual- and quad-core processors and optional 10GigE;
  • K2 Plus storage options offering two new high-performance RAID systems with more than 50 percent more bandwidth than previous systems;
  • K2-ASI Client for the media server platform that will take an ASI feed in, extract individual program files and store them on disk.
