New transport solutions showcased at CableLabs Summer Conference

Twelve technology providers demonstrated emerging technologies at the CableLabs Summer Conference earlier this month. Among the 12 companies was Scopus Video Networks, which demonstrated an end-to-end system with two main components: secure and error-resilient video transport over IP, and stream conditioning for client-based targeted advertising.

During the CableLabs Innovation Showcase, selected companies demonstrated a technology or application that was new to the cable marketplace and had not yet been deployed in cable systems anywhere in the world. The showcase took place during a plenary session of the conference. Each company made a 10-minute presentation and demonstration before an audience of more than 300 cable industry technologists and business executives.

As operators deploy video-over-IP transport across massive networks, internal or leased fiber, they are challenged by stream errors that affect security and service. The Scopus implementation allows for secure and error-resilient video transport in a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint architecture. Scopus uses a scrambling/descrambling scheme coupled with a Forward Error Correction (Pro MPEG FEC) mechanism to allow the secure and reliable delivery of video-over-IP networks. Both the scrambling and FEC mechanisms implemented by Scopus are interoperable for integration in open systems.
