Digital monitors dot the train stations in the city of Turin’s public train system providing arrival information and advertisements.

As part of a facelift that came with the 2006 Winter Olympics, the city of Turin implemented a digital signage network throughout its public underground rail system.

Global Display Solutions (GDS) was selected by the Turin Transport Group (GTT) and Selcom Elettronica to install its e-Signage monitors to provide timetable information and advertising spots in all stations.

For this project, GDS is supplying 32in displays. As the displays will be in use for the majority of the day, GDS has equipped them with a built-in thermal management system and a ventral fan mounted in a custom heat sink to dissipate heat from the electronics. A single-board computer has also been built into the display in order for passenger information to be updated from a central server.

GDS's e-Signage platform products can be supplied as stand-alone video monitors or intelligent terminals. In their terminal configuration, the units can be run under Windows XP or Linux software packages.

Selcom Elettronica has been assigned to install the majority of the electronics inside the Turin underground stations.
