VOOM HD streamlines production of surround-sound programming

Rainbow Media’s VOOM HD Networks has been successful in preparing surround-sound mixes for original location recordings where live sound is most appropriately captured in stereo.

The company is using a pair of Linear Acoustic UpMAX 2251 5.1 channel surround-field synthesizers to mix sound for all of its 15 networks.

Developed to streamline the production of high-quality surround-sound programming, UpMAX accepts conventional two-channel stereo material, and outputs fully adjustable 5.1 channel audio mixes that are mono- and stereo-compatible. Audio can be supplemented with additional center, subwoofer and left and right surround, with left and right front discrete audio applied to dedicated external inputs. Control is via GPI/O and Ethernet ports. Center width and surround depth plus external mix controls enable precise real-time adjustment.

Based in New York, VOOM HD Networks features many HD channels, all of which are produced exclusively for distribution in the United States and internationally through satellite and cable operators. The VOOM HD Networks include Animania HD, Family Room HD, Film Fest HD, Gallery HD, Kung Fu HD, Monsters HD, Rave HD, Treasure HD, Ultra HD, World Cinema HD and WorldSport HD, and are currently available domestically on EchoStar's DISH Network.
