YouTube offers first paid video downloads

YouTube is conducting a test with a select group of content owners.

YouTube is conducting a test with a select group of content owners.

YouTube, in a test with a select group of its high-profile media partners, is now offering paid downloads of video from its popular Web site.

For several years YouTube has been seeking ways to monetize its video service.  The company’s announcement did not say how much of a cut YouTube is planning to take from the purchase prices.

The videos are typically available for around $1. Downloads are available only as MP4 files.
