Independent telecommunications company SureWest Communications has selected Widevine Technologies to protect its IPTV services — one of the largest in the United States. See “Securing HD content is a critically important task for IPTV operators.”

AT&T names Lakstigala director of programming for broadband video products
Anne Lakstigala has been appointed senior director of programming at AT&T. She will be responsible for managing content acquisition for the company's portfolio of broadband video products.
Lakstigala, who joins the AT&T programming team based in Los Angeles, will report to Amy Friedlander-Hoffman, AT&T senior vice president of programming.

MSTI Holdings signs agreement with CSI Digital to provide IPTV in New York City
MSTI Holdings has signed an agreement with Portland, OR-based CSI Digital (CSI) to become the first provider of a fully integrated IPTV platform in New York City.
The IPTV content initially will include more than 300 channels in the MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 formats, including HDTV offerings, popular basic and premium cable networks, a variety of ethnic programming, local stations, and a multiple of all-music channels.
UTStarcom supplies Optibase IPTV encoding platforms for Aksh
UTStarcom will integrate Optibase's advanced H.264 Media Gateway (MGW) 5100 IPTV encoding platforms in its end-to-end RollingStream IPTV solution for deployment with Aksh in India.
Aksh will use Optibase's integrated carrier-grade TV streaming platforms to provide advanced H.264 high-quality encoding.

ATEME helps Free to expand IPTV bandwidth
ATEME has made a major sale of video encoders to French telco Free, a subsidiary of the Iliad Group.
Free is the top alternative ADSL operator in France, with more than 2,498,000 subscribers as of March 31. Using the new Kyrion MPEG-4 AVC SD video encoder from ATEME, 18 standard-definition television channels will go live at a bit rate of 1.7 Mb/s.

Disney-ABC TV sign deal with Tiscali
The Disney-ABC Television Group has signed a deal to supply three Disney-branded channels to subscribers of Italian-owned ISP Tiscali's IPTV service in the UK.
The Disney Channel and preschool service Playhouse Disney now will be available as part of Tiscali TV's kids pack, while family channel Disney Cinemagic will be offered as a standalone premium subscription channel.
