Game console Web portals to drive over-the-top video usage
Nov 25, 2008 11:29 AM
A larger swath of consumers now realizes game consoles can bring over-the-top video to the living room TV than even 18 months ago, says The Diffusion Group analyst Colin Dixon.
A new report from The Diffusion Group predicts entertainment Web portals accessed via game consoles will soon become serious competition for pay TV providers.
The report, “Console Vendors and OTT Video Delivery – Let the Games Begin!,” offers an analysis of the over-the-top video space and examines how game consoles are poised to bring together broadband Internet service and the living room television set.
Colin Dixon, co-author of the report and an analyst with The Diffusion Group, says efforts like Microsoft’s Xbox LIVE online video portal and Sony’s PlayStation Network are only among the first of many such services that will transform how households access entertainment in the future.
This week’s Sound Off is presented as an audio podcast.
