BBC begins streaming sports, news with new ViewCast encoders

The BBC has begun using ViewCast Niagara Pro streaming encoders to power live streaming of prestige sporting events and news on its Web site.

Fourteen Niagara Pros have been installed to provide a range of services, including coverage of the Beijing Olympics and 24/7 streaming of news programming. The Niagara Pro installation provided the platform for an upgrade of the BBC’s existing services.

Splash Media, Success University partner on learning center project

Digital video IPTV publisher Splash Media and Success University are partnering to develop, create and distribute the next-generation platform for the Success University Learning Center.

Splash Media’s Video Based E-Learning (VBE) platform will be used for the project, which will include incorporating video and audio lessons, e-books, testing modules, and accomplishment tracking records into the Success University Web site. The project is due to be completed within 60 days.

CinemaNow chooses Widevine for secure content distribution

CinemaNow has selected Widevine Technologies to secure multiplatform distribution of its content to major consumer electronics (CE) devices and PCs.

Implementation of the effort calls for CE devices shipping to retailers with CinemaNow’s CE Store application embedded with Widevine’s content protection. The embedded solution enables a secure and interoperable experience.

CinemaNow also employs Widevine content protection to secure delivery of content from the company’s Web site.

USTelematics inks deal to resell WiMax service with mobile IPTV package

USTelematics has entered into a reseller agreement with American Wireless to provide Clearwire WiMax service in automobiles equipped with its Voyager Mobile IPTV, USTelematics said last week.

According to USTelematics CEO Howard Leventhal, the company expects the agreement will help to accelerate WiMax deployment nationwide.

KyLinTV adds English Channel Select Package

Chinese IPTV company KyLinTV has added mainstream English-language channels to its current line-up of Chinese programs.

The English Channel Select Package is now available to U.S. subscribers through a partnership between KyLinTV and Sky Angel, a TV broadcast service offering family-friendly programming.
