Espial to acquire Kasenna

IPTV middleware and applications developer Espial Group said June 30 it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Kasenna in a stock swap deal.

According to Espial Group, the combined operations of the two companies will provide various synergies, including an increased number of Tier One video service providers; broader channel relationships with equipment vendors and integrators; and larger sales staff, support and fulfillment capacity.

Tilgin to appeal Swedish Customs decision

Tilgin said July 1 it will appeal the decision by Swedish Customs to impose custom duties on imports of its IPTV set-top boxes.

The company currently has an appeal of a similar decision by Swedish Customs on the import of 12 instances of IPTV set-top box imports in 2005 pending before the Swedish County Administrative Court.

According to the company, if it ultimately is forced to pay custom duties, it plans to recoup the expense from the customers involved in the imports.

Telchemy ships more than 30 million VQmon units

Telchemy announced June 27 that more than 100 equipment manufacturers have integrated its VQmon software into their products, ranging from IP phones to probes and analyzers, and that more than 30 million units have been shipped.

VQmon/SA-VM and VQmon/HD are integrated into routers, probes, analyzers and IP set-top boxes to provide real-time IPTV and IP Videoconferencing performance metrics.

Harmonic MediaPrism, DiviCom Ion receive recognition

Broadband Gear Report (BGR) has recognized Harmonic’s MediaPrism direct-to-edge cable IPTV solution with a four-star rating in its Diamond Technology Reviews.

According to BGR, a four-star rating indicates excellent products with technical features and performance that provide clear and substantial benefits. Harmonic’s DiviCom Ion encoder earned a score of 3.5 diamonds.
