NHL, NeuLion ink deal to launch online fan experience
The National Hockey League (NHL) and NeuLion last week announced a partnership to bring a unique online experience to fans worldwide using NeuLion technology at the start of the 2007-’08 season.

A new NHL Integrated Video Portal will be available via NHL.com and all of the 30 club sites to deliver high-quality video and other content. Fans will be able to navigate between live game content, video features, behind-the-scenes footage and game highlights that are viewable in multiple video windows or full screen.

China Telecom inks deal with UTStarcom for RollingStream deployment
UTStarcom has won a bid to deploy its RollingStream end-to-end IPTV solution with China Telecom (CTC) for a new commercial IPTV network by China Telecom in the nation’s Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

The initial deployment has the capacity to support 10,000 subscribers and will offer 52 live broadcast television channels, 48-hour time-shifting capabilities, 3000 hours of video-on-demand (VOD) content and valued-added services.

SBS selects TANDBERG Television for Internet TV
Special Broadcasting Service (SBS), Australia's multicultural and multilingual public broadcaster, has selected TANDBERG Television's comprehensive solution for Internet TV asset ingest, transcoding, management and distribution.

As part of the integration, SBS will access TANDBERG's Alloy and MediaModeler technologies through a managed services model to publish SBS content and user-generated video via the Internet.

Packet Vision joins Juniper Networks IPTV bundled services program
Packet Vision has joined Juniper Network’s J-Partner Solutions Alliance Program to offer its targeted, addressable and interactive advertising solutions as part of a bundle of services geared to the IPTV industry.

By working together, Packet Vision and Juniper will enable telcos, broadcasters and advertisers to leverage targeted advertising and provide a higher value service to viewers.

Summit to tackle IP-video delivery opportunities
The New Video Summit: TV Titans Tackle a New Mass Medium, Oct. 29 in Boston, will provide insight into how traditional TV companies are coping with the challenges and exploiting the uncharted opportunities made available through IP-based video delivery.  Tom Rogers, CEO of Tivo, will deliver the luncheon keynote. Orca Interactive enters U.S. IPTV market with W.T. Services deal
Orca Interactive has entered the U.S. market with its first U.S. customer win, W.T. Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of West Texas Rural Telephone Cooperative.

The solution provides W.T. Services with integrated, carrier-grade IPTV services, including live television broadcast, pay-per-view and video on demand (VOD). W.T. Services’ new IPTV service is powered by Orca’s RiGHTv middleware and includes Caller ID over television.

Optibase amends tender offer for Scopus Video Network shares
Optibase said July 19 that it had amended an earlier tender offer to buy an additional 5 percent interest in Scopus Video Networks, upping the total number of shares covered by the offer to 690,000.

Optibase’s original tender offer made earlier in the month was to purchase 678,000 shares. The company already owns 3,035,223 ordinary shares of Scopus, representing approximately 22.5 percent of Scopus’ outstanding shares, and, following the consummation of the tender offer, would own about 27.6 percent of Scopus' outstanding shares.

Singapore Telecommunications launches mio TV IPTV service
Singapore Telecommunications July 20 announced the launch of “mio TV,” the company’s new IPTV service.

The service will offer an extensive on-demand service, HD channels from VOOM HD Networks, MediaCorp’s HD5 and a made-in-Singapore HD channel, Sling HD.

Singapore Telecommunications' IPTV offering is powered by the first commercial deployment of Microsoft Mediaroom, an end-to-end IPTV and multimedia platform.
