GBTA, Clearfield to bring fiber to rural Kansas homes
Golden Belt Telephone Association (GBTA), a cooperative based in Rush Center, KS, has teamed with Clearfield (formerly APA Cables & Networks) for a five-year fiber-to-the-home deployment to 18 communities in west central Kansas.
The deployment will cover about 4000sq mi and 3000 homes in rural Kansas when completed in 2013. GBTA was looking for a patch panel system with fiber management that would serve the voice, broadband and cable television needs of its service area.

Portugal Telecom deploys Harmonic's IP-based solutions
Portugal Telecom has put in place a broad range of Harmonic IP-based MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) compression and stream processing solutions for its nationwide launch of satellite direct-to-home (DTH) television.
The new service is offered as part of Portugal Telecom's triple-play Meo package and complements its IPTV offering, also powered by Harmonic.

MTS Allstream selects ETI Software Solutions
Canadian communications provider MTS Allstream will use ETI Software Solutions' Triad OSS to integrate Microsoft's Mediaroom IP video technology with its CRM and billing infrastructure, ETI said last week. Triad automates the provisioning of IPTV services to MTS Allstream's expanding subscriber base.
In delivering the solution for MTS Allstream, ETI has developed a custom interface to the provider’s existing middleware.

IBM, Widevine assist Skynet with delivering premium TV content
IBM and Widevine Technologies are helping Skynet, the Internet Service Provider (ISP) arm of Penki Kontinentai group, to provide premium TV content, known as Penki TV, to all 25,000 Skynet users in Lithuania, the companies said last week.
Skynet turned to IBM and content protection partner Widevine for the technology needed to secure content for television and Video on Demand (VoD) distribution. Skynet will deliver PayTV services to set-top boxes and is planning to expand service delivery to PCs in the near future.

Inuk Networks, Move Networks form strategic partnership
Triple-play service provider Inuk Networks and Move Networks have formed a strategic partnership under which Inuk will integrate Move Networks’ video publishing system, including Move Simulcode and Move Adaptive Stream, to deliver a combined solution using Inuk’s igloo virtual set-top box solution for PCs and Macs.
Inuk also will offer a complete wholesale solution for content owners and platform operators, including the combined technology solution, hosting, systems integration, billing, playout, support and CDN services.
