Mainland China IPTV subscribers to exceed 23 million by 2012

A new study from ABI Research forecasts that IPTV take-up in mainland China to pass the 23 million subscriber mark by 2012.
The report, "IPTV in China: Analysis of the Chinese IPTV Market, Regulatory Environment and Growth Potential," finds that while China's expanding broadband environment is paving the way for IPTV to reach the market, bottlenecks exist.
In the short term, a lack of content of interest to consumers is slowing adoption of IPTV services in China, said ABI Research analyst Serene Fong. Growth will remain modest and only accelerate after 2008. The Beijing Olympics in 2008 and the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai will contribute to the growth of IPTV in China, Fong said.
