3 million to subscribe to IPTV in Japan by 2012, says report

The number of IPTV subscribers in Japan will exceed 3 million by 2012, up about 2.6 million from today’s level, according to a new report from ROA Group.
The report, “Japan IPTV Market Outlook,” also forecasts that the expected market penetration of IPTV services in Japan by 2012 will be 6 percent. Additionally, between 2006 and 2012, the average growth rate for IPTV in Japan will reach 65 percent.
According to the report, three providers currently are offering IPTV service in Japan, including Hikari TV from NTT Plara, Hikari One TV from KDDI and BBTV from BB Cable.
