During the CeBIT show last week in Hannover, Germany, Thomson launched the DBI8500, HD personal video recorder (PVR) for IPTV applications.

Triple play operators needing to be able to offer high-definition television to minimize churn to other television providers need a powerful, affordable set-top box. To meet this requirement, the new, compact Thomson DBI8500 HD PVR combines MPEG-4 decoding for bandwidth-efficient services including HD with an integrated hard disk recorder.

Fanfree for quiet operation, the Thomson DBI8500 can also include as an option a DVB-T tuner and decoder for both broadcast and IP reception.
