Verizon expands FiOS TV service in New York, Virginia

Verizon continues to make progress in rolling out its FiOS TV cable alternative with new service areas in New York and completion of a franchise agreement in Virginia.
Verizon has expanded its FiOS TV service to parts of the Town of Ramapo, NY, including the communities of Hillcrest, Ladentown, Monsey, Tallman, Viola, Northeast Ramapo and Western Ramapo in Rockland County, and in the Long Island village of Bellerose, the company said last week.
The company already offers FiOS TV in more than 155 New York communities. Verizon's FiOS TV Premier package delivers 200 all-digital channels, including 31 HD channels in the New York market and access to more than 10,000 on-demand titles, 60 percent of which are free. FiOS TV Premier customers in the New York market also receive the YES Network, MSG Network, FSN New York, SportsNet NY and the NFL Network.
On Feb. 19, the Chesapeake, VA, city council authorized Verizon to begin offering its FiOS TV service. About 81,000 households are covered under the new cable franchise agreement.
Verizon began offering FiOS TV in Chesapeake in December 2007 under ordinance franchise rules, which cleared the way for the company to offer the service to about 6400 households in the area. Under the new agreement, Verizon will make FiOS TV available to all households in its initial service area within three years.
