BigBand to show HD, VOD via IP delivery over cable modems

BigBand Networks will show how its modular cable modem termination system (M-CMTS) solution can deliver HD video-on-demand and IPTV over existing DOCSIS cable modems this week at ANGA Cable 2007 in Cologne, Germany.

Though cable IPTV is a relatively nascent technology, one operator is already using BigBand’s Cuda CMTS — a key element of its M-CMTS solution — to deliver IP-based VOD to subscribers.

BigBand’s exhibit will include a multi-vendor demonstration that leverages a VOD server from BitBand, a Camiant policy server and application manager, a VOD session manager from eventIS and Zappware’s set-top box middleware to deliver high-definition VOD over DOCSIS 2.0 modems. The company also will demonstrate its M-CMTS architecture with DOCSIS 3.0 channel bonding and a channel bonding cable modem to deliver SD and HD to an IPTV set-top box.
