Prysmian kicks off FTTH road show
Prysmian Telecom Cables & Systems Sept. 4 launched an 11-week, 15-country FTTH European Roadshow to support fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) technology in Europe.
Highlights of the road show will include a specially constructed, interactive exhibition trailer demonstrating Prysmian's latest FTTH passive product solutions. The road show will visit: Holland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Spain and France.

Korea Telecom selects ATEME H.264 encoding
Korea Telecom in Seoul, South Korea, will use ATEME encoding technology for its new MegaTV fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service. This new service offers converged voice, data and IPTV service to homes throughout the country.
Korea Telecom has purchased several ATEME H.264 file encoder licenses and will use ATEME technology to process all of the movies available on MegaTV, which equates to more than 2000 hours per month.

GoBackTV, Verimatrix ink global OEM agreement
GoBackTV has entered into a strategic OEM partnership with IPTV content security technologies specialist Verimatrix.
GoBackTV’s CMTS bypass technology enables delivery of unicast and multicast IPTV over cable to off-the-shelf IP set-top boxes via standard DOCSIS 1.1 and 2.0 cable modems. Verimatrix has integrated GoBackTV’s Cable IPTV solution into its independently audited Video Content Authority System (VCAS), enabling cable operators to deliver secure IPTV with two-way, software-based downloadable security that leverages mature Internet security protocols.

Portugal Telecom deploys Harmonic encoders
Portugal Telecom has deployed Harmonic's DiviCom Electra MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) encoders to power its nationwide IPTV service. The digital video headend includes the Electra 7000 HD encoders and Electra 5400 SD encoders, and was implemented at Portugal Telecom by Novabase/OctalTV.

Elion to use Concurrent VOD technology
Concurrent announced this week the first commercial deployment of video-on-demand (VOD) in the Baltic States. Elion, one of the largest telecommunications and IT providers in Estonia, has chosen Concurrent's MediaHawk 4000 on-demand platform to provide about 1200 streams to about 40,000 IPTV subscribers in a decentralized architecture.
