Macrovision acquires Gemstar-TV Guide
Macrovision and Gemstar-TV Guide International said last week that they have signed a definitive agreement for Macrovision to acquire Gemstar-TV Guide in a cash and stock transaction. The aggregate value of the transaction on Dec. 6 was about $2.8 billion.
Combining Macrovision’s and Gemstar-TV Guide’s solution portfolios will enable extensive libraries of commercial and personal protected content to be accessible on numerous devices via simple, intuitive guides.

India’s Bharat Sanchar Nigam turns to Redback for broadband deployment
Bharat Sanchar Nigam of India will use Redback Network’s SmartEdge family of multi-service edge routers to deliver broadband services for up to 2.5 million business and residential users.
Under the new deal, BSNL plans to deploy Redback’s SmartEdge 800 multi-service edge routers for multiple broadband services to more than 200,000 broadband customers in Bangalore and Chennai, India.
