MetroPCS Communications last week launched of a new smartphone from Samsung equipped with an MDTV receiver so customers can watch live, local broadcast television with Dyle mobile TV.

MetroPCS is the nation's fifth largest wireless carrier in terms of subscribers. So the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S Lightray 4G with an integrated Mobile DTV receiver is significant.

According to Anne Schelle, executive director of the Open Mobile Video Coalition, the launch is the first of many she expects this year. While it's been said before, Schelle asserts that the 2012 holiday shopping season will be first that consumers will have a true selection of Mobile DTV goodies for those they are gifting.

In this podcast interview, Schelle discusses the MetroPCS launch, what other new products consumers can expect and the efforts broadcasters will be making to tell consumers that Mobile DTV is real and ready.
