Final day of NAB Show 2009 promises full schedule

The final day of the NAB Show opens today with a full slate of panel discussions, general sessions and exhibits.
The official theme of the day at NAB is “Alternate Reality and Video Game Day,” a first for the convention. Game-related sessions scheduled for today include:
- Alternate Reality Games: Telling Stories from the New Frontier
- AFI: Games & TV Collaboration
- Second Chances in Second Life
- Games: Top 5 Trends Revolutionizing Entertainment Today
Apart from the theme, however, Thursday at NAB promises insight into a variety of issues, including alternate broadcast platforms, TV infrastructure, emergency communications, TV archiving and asset management and content protection.
As part of the Broadcast Engineering Conference, James O’Neal, who has completed a career with VOA, will lead the session on alternate broadcast platforms with presentations from Adam Tom, co-founder and executive VP of RGB Networks; Hiromitsu Miyazaki, of the Japan Broadcasting Corp.; Pat Dunbar, director of connected TV advertising, TV, video and music at Microsoft; and William Cooper, founder of media consultancy informitv.
Two sessions on Thursday will be devoted to TV infrastructure. The first, 9:30 a.m. to noon, will be led by Chuck Phelan, managing partner at National TeleConsultants. Presenters will include Chris Lennon, director of integration and standards at Harris; Harold Gelber; Jean Macher, director of marketing for the headend division of Grass Valley; Kenneth Brady, of Turner Broadcasting; Sidney Skjei P.E.; Siu Yin Loh, broadcast technology and management consultant with Beyond Broadcast; and Stephen Lampen, media technology manager for Belden.
The second session devoted to TV infrastructure, scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m., also will be led by Phelan. Presenters will include Ankit Patel, senior product manager at Echolab; Nigel Seth-Smith, of Gennum; Peter Symes, author and senior member of the IEEE and fellow of SMPTE; and Yutaka Kikawa, of NHK.
