FCC hikes regulatory fees on broadcasters

The FCC has increased regulatory fees by as much as 14 percent on terrestrial television stations. The increased fees are mandated by Congress and are slated to recover the regulatory costs associated with the commission’s enforcement, policy and rulemaking, user information and international activities.
The commission last week released a document specifying the changes for each category of business it regulates. The minimum increase for all categories is 2.6 percent. Some broadcasters are exempt to fees because of financial hardship or for other reasons. Digital-only broadcasters are also exempt.
