New style of TV coverage introduced to tennis in Miami

Women's tennis got an infusion of new technology in Miami last week, including mid-match television interviews, instant TV replays to decide line calls and enhanced microphones, Reuters reported.
The changes, which had the players' support, included stars such as Amelie Mauresmo and Maria Sharapova, conducting television interviews moments before stepping on the court. Their coaches shared their thoughts with viewers during matches.
Instant replays were also used to decide close line-calls for the first time on the professional tour in the dual men's and women's event in Miami. WTA Tour chief executive Larry Scott said the innovations heralded a new era for the traditionally conservative sport.
In addition to the player and coach interviews, enhanced microphones were placed on the court and on the umpire's chair, while players acquired microphones during practice matches.
