Abit to control streaming at NRK

Oct 15, 2008 8:00 AM

Abit has designed and delivered a bespoke solution to control on-demand capture and live streaming of itemized content for Norwegian national broadcaster NRK. Abit, which provides the playout automation for NRK’s three channels, has integrated its solution with Digital Rapids encoders to control the start and end points of content to be streamed over the Internet and made available for on-demand transmission.

NRK is making a large portion of its content more widely available, but rights issues make this a complex scenario. The Abit solution controls which items of content can and can’t be streamed to the Internet. The broadcaster’s planning department provides the schedule information indicating which program content can be made more widely available, and the Abit system flags the appropriate items to start and stop programming and switches automatically to alternative content if required.
