ABS to help journalists acquire skills for one-man-band newsgathering

Advanced Broadcast Solutions in Seatac, WA, has released a new poster, “Creating Content: The One-Man Band,” to coincide with the announcement of its new curriculum to train journalists on producing complete stories alone or with minimal help from a news crew.
SeaTac, WA-based systems integrator Advanced Broadcast Solutions (ABS) is initiating an effort to help train broadcast news veterans and other on how to produce complete stories by themselves or with minimal support from a news crew.
The systems integrator developed the curriculum to meet the changing needs and news production workflows increasingly being employed by larger stations. “What’s happening today is that larger markets are going with smaller crews,” said Tom Layson, ABS content creation adviser.
Lighter, smaller cameras and other field equipment are changing the workflow and economic equation as it applies to newsgathering. “The new gear is smaller and easier to use, so the technology is supporting the economic considerations that are driving decisions about who gathers news and how they do it,” Layson said.
