ESPN’s first online video syndication agreement will deliver short-form sports programming through AOL Video and AOL Sports.

Looking to expand its reach with fans, ESPN.com will make its short-form online video content accessible directly through AOL Video and AOL Sports. It’s the first time ESPN has syndicated its video content through an Internet portal.

ESPN will supply highlights from games and major sporting events as well as video clips from ESPN original programming via embedded ESPN video player.

Matt Murphy, senior VP of digital video distribution at ESPN, said working with AOL allows fans to access the programming they want, whether they are on ESPN.com or AOL’s portal, while advertisers benefit from a larger online video audience.

In making its programming available via AOL, ESPN joins all four TV networks and a variety of cable channels whose web programming can be accessed via the AOL service.

Content available through ESPN’s embedded video player will also offer links to ESPN.com content related to the desired topics of interest. Users can access the ESPN content through AOL Video’s channel tab located on the homepage. In addition, ESPN’s videos will easily be found through AOL’s video search, which is powered by the video search engine Truveo.
