The Associated Press has adopted a new version of SNAPfeed, making it easier for broadcasters using ENPS, the AP’s news production system, to send video back to the newsroom from a laptop computer.
Packaged with ENPS, the enhanced user interface of SNAPfeed 3.0 guides journalists through a non-technical, four-step process to encode and transmit their video. Using the Windows Media 9 codec and a variety of transmission options such as DSL, cable, cellular, satellite phone and dial-up, SNAPfeed enables routine field transmissions.
It uses administrator defined resolutions and aspect ratios, giving broadcasters greater control over how their video looks and avoiding any possible oversights by freelancers and stringers. It works closely with Anystream’s Agility encoding and transcoding software. Combined with SNAPfeed, Agility automatically and quickly converts incoming files to production server specific formats and then transfers the video directly into servers.
Producers waiting for incoming video receive constant status updates in an ENPS running order or assignment area. Once received, the file can be accessed via any ENPS workstation as part of the newsroom workflow.
