A conference on reforming the FCC has been called in Washington, D.C., for Jan. 5 by Public Knowledge, a public interest group working to defend the rights of citizens in the emerging digital culture.
Speakers will include former FCC chairmen Reed Hundt and William Kennard, both advisers to President-elect Obama. Former commissioner Nicholas Johnson, who wrote the book, “How to Talk Back to Your Television Set,” and former commissioner Kathleen Abernathy, will also take part. Current FCC commissioner Michael Copps has also been invited.
The conference was scheduled before the release of the House report criticizing FCC chairman Kevin Martin. However, the report will likely provide a centerpiece for the discussion.
The meeting will be held in the Holeman Lounge of the National Press Building beginning at 9 a.m.
