Dolby Laboratories has turned to Thomson to combat piracy and illegal recordings in the realm of cinema. The former is integrating Thomson's NexGuard content security suite into its Digital Cinema servers in attempts to ensure copyright security of stored content.
NexGuard will be embedded into several hundred Dolby Digital Cinema servers, which can replay DCI-compliant 2-D and 3-D digital cinema images. The NexGuard applicable forensic watermarking solution is expected to combat in-theatre piracy by offering the protection means to identify the date, time and location of illegal camcorder recordings.
Thomson and Dolby have been working together on this solution since 2006.
