Omneon announced today that its board of directors has appointed Suresh Vasudevan as the company’s president and CEO. Vasudevan joins Omneon having most recently served as senior vice president of product operations at NetApp and as a member of the company’s executive team, leading all product management and engineering for the NetApp product portfolio.

“We are thrilled that Suresh has joined Omneon,” said Lawrence Kaplan, who has acted as interim president and CEO at Omneon since April 2008 and now returns to his role as vice chairman of the board. “Suresh brings a great balance of leadership and product management knowledge to the company, and we look forward to his guiding Omneon to the next level.”

Said Vasudevan, “I respect Omneon tremendously for its integrity as a company, its customer focus and its position in the market. I look forward to working with the entire Omneon team. Together we can set out to achieve even greater growth.”

Vasudevan’s career at NetApp spanned nearly a decade. He held several senior executive positions, beginning in corporate development, moving on to lead product management, and eventually heading up all product operations. As a key driver of NetApp’s product strategy, he played an instrumental role enabling NetApp to successfully expand its product portfolio beyond the network-attached storage (NAS) market into the storage area network (SAN) and disk-based backup markets.

Prior to his tenure at NetApp, Vasudevan worked at the management consulting firm McKinsey & Co. in New Delhi, Mumbai, and Chicago as a senior engagement manager focusing on product marketing, operations and marketing strategy.
