Arroyo scales VOD with 10GigE

Arroyo’s SystemManager offers a 10x scaling in capacity versus 1GigE, enabling a single fiber to carry up to 2500 3.75Mb/s video streams.
Arroyo Video Solutions, maker of the Arroyo OnDemand video-on-demand systems, has announced support for native 10Gigabit Ethernet (10GigE) interfaces — a development that allows greater scalability in VOD systems.

As their performance requirements grow, video operators are moving rapidly from 1GigE to 10GigE-based transport architectures. By integrating 10GigE boards built by other vendors into its platform, Arroyo is able to easily and rapidly respond to operators’ needs for speed, performance and scalability.

With Arroyo OnDemand running on the latest Intel hardware, it can now deliver up to 5000 3.75Mb/s video streams per server.

The company said the increasing popularity of VOD is imposing rapidly increasing loads on networks. 10Gigabit Ethernet technology offers a tenfold scaling in capacity versus 1GigE, enabling a single fiber to carry up to 2500 3.75Mb/s video streams and reducing the number of network paths operators have to manage.
