ATI Technologies has introduced Xilleon 210VC, what it claims is the worldâs first digital terrestrial and cable plug-and-play âTelevision-on-Chip.â
All the essential technology that goes into making a North American or Korean digital TVâthe reception front-end and the video decode and display back-endâare available in the one-chip product.
The Xilleon 210VC supports both the terrestrial broadcast standard and the cable plug-and-play (digital cable ready) standard that was recently approved by the FCC. In addition, it supports HD video decoding and display, and graphical user interfaces.
The new circuit includes demodulators for ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee), VSB (vestigial sideband), Digital Cable QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation), Forward Data Channel QPSK (quadrature phase shift keying), NTSC (National Television Standards Committee), and BTSC (Business Team Sound Coding).
It also has conditional access, transport demultiplexers, HD MPEG-2 video decoders, and digital audio decoders. Also there are scalers and de-interlacers for HDTV and VCR outputs; 2D and 3D graphics engine for menus; and 300 MHz MIPS CPU for applications and operating systems.
